He Saw the Mudders' Lament

Having already passed the eighth (!) anniversary of the original Browncoat Saloon at Keycon, and with the tenth anniversary of the original release of Serenity coming up, I hadn't been thinking much about it (or the Firefly franchise itself, really)--except to note that once in a blue moon, someone would stumble upon the Browncoat Saloon Shop on Zazzle and end up purchasing something there. (The Mudder's Milk Mug seemed particularly popular.)

Out of nowhere, however, I recently got an email directly from Zazzle:
Unfortunately, it appears that your product did not meet Zazzle’s Acceptable Content Guidelines. Specifically, your product contained content which infringes upon Twentieth Century Fox's intellectual property rights of "Firefly".

Zazzle has been contacted by legal representatives from Twentieth Century Fox, and at their request, to remove products which infringe upon their rights from the Zazzle Marketplace.

We are sorry for any disappointment, but hope you will understand our position in this regard.
I'm not sure if this reflects Twentieth Century Fox making more of an effort to go after fan-made products in general now (after all these years, they're finally starting to licence more official Firefly products lately), and I haven't been able to get a specific answer from Zazzle about how our products could be infringing if they're made up of an original image and original bilingual text, but it looks like none of the interested Browncoats out there will be able to order Browncoat Saloon schwag anymore. :/

more (mostly companion decor)under here...Collapse )

most of these are of the Companion Guild side of the room. i encourage those of you who also took pictures (pseudohistorian?) to upload & email me so i can add them to this post.

i can't believe i didn't get the hitching post & vera, the pillory in action & a good shot of our bar. to be fair, that i don't have any saloon photos indicates how packed it was. i kept waiting for a dead moment when the crowd had thinned out (so as not to interrupt/disturb any of the suite patrons) & well, that never happened.

Browncoat Saloon

NOT the end... it's not like we're on FOX, or anything!

While Keycon 24 is over, this is far from the end of the Browncoat Saloon. If you are just finding us here for the first time, this is the journey of our creation of a consuite. If you are a return visitor, please note that more of our posts are being unlocked all the time (now that the debut is done) and you can get a better idea of the insanity that went into this.  Finally, if
you have a suggestion as to where you might like to see the Saloon make an appearance, please feel free to comment here.

Thanks to ALL who came out, and we look forward to seein' y'all again real soon!

p.s. we will continue to update - including with links to where you can get your very own Browncoat Saloon shwag!!

There's No Place I Can Be

One thing that's been on my mind is a solid, finalised schedule of the many activities we have planned: What's taking place only once, and what's going on all the time? What time are we serving food? That sort of thing...

If everyone could comment here with their thoughts/certainties on what is happening when over the course of the weekend, I'll modify this entry to show a Saloon Schedule which we can all refer back to later. :)

Thanks in advance...

Okay, with the comments in place, here's the (relatively open) schedule:

Early Evening: Big Damn Opening

Activities: Darts, Xbox, Firefly/Serenity/Done the Impossible on DVD

Menu: Fortune Cookies, Fruity Oaty Bars, Wasabi Peas, Drinks

Activities: Darts, Xbox, Firefly/Serenity/Done the Impossible/Mosquito on DVD, Poker, Karaoke

Menu: Baked Beans, Fortune Cookies, Fruity Oaty Bars, Ramen, Wasabi Peas, Drinks

10 PM: Silent Auction Draw

Activities: Darts, Xbox, Firefly/Serenity/Done the Impossible/Mosquito on DVD, Big Damn Sing-a-Long

Menu: Baked Beans, Fortune Cookies, Fruity Oaty Bars, Ramen, Wasabi Peas, Drinks (or whatever's left of all this, anyway :})

Any other thoughts? What am I missing?
